Saw Rise of the Guardians, it was okay. There were a lot of singular things that I really liked, but as a whole it kinda left me “eh”, especially the ending.
Well, I mentioned in the comments but to recap my personal problems with it... Mainly it was the fact that Jack is generally shown to be carefree, independent and concentrated on fun, depressed that no one sees him, and though obviously there is (and should be) character development where he matures and finds his inner Guardian, to have him totally ignore everything he was in the beginning and just leave the kids and go... "somewhere" just comes off out of character to him. I mean he has no base like the others and he called that town his home in the beginning of the movie. Not to mention he himself berated the other characters for not being close to the kids and spend time with them, so now that he actually has the means to be part of the fun (which is his thing to do in life) he just... leaves away somewhere where he can't be spreading fun. Personally it would have made more sense for his character to leave on his own to spread more winter and cheer people, since we at that point know he's proved himself to be a guardian, I don't think the character needed to leave with the others together.
I'm not saying that it was bad, but the end didn't really give a real sense of satisfaction either. Same goes for the final end of Pitch, as you'd think he would be more or less immune to his own powers so it just felt both an easy way to get rid of him and somewhat inconsistent when it came to the powers of the characters.
I thought Pitch's descent made a lot of sense he himself says everyone has a fear since he wasn't believed in and found himself defeated, he was in fear, of what would happen to him, not being believed in, going to be trapped in his lair again like he was for hundreds of years before...
I don't recall if he said that, but it's not about that specific kid, it's about the character of Jack, his personality and that he's a free spirit that goes with the wind, which was lost during that last scene. Like, what business did he really even have with the other Guardians now that Pitch was defeated? The beginning indicated that they don't gather unless there's a bigger problem, and there's no base for Jack to go so there's no real reason for him to go with them, in the sense that the same effect could have gotten by Jack flying away, yelling his goodbyes and telling that they can count on him when they ever need. Having him leave in North's sleigh came off more like that he's going back to his place and do nothing (at least nothing that the audience can guess).
Yeah, but when Jack's source of power was destroyed, it didn't suddenly make him suffer from cold, right? So now that Pitch lost his powers to the old level and was afraid, suddenly he has no control of the nightmares, considering that he did start making them when he presumably was low in power. Or does his powers actually work by him NEVER showing any fear? It just raises a lot more questions, like, how did he suddenly lose his powers? I mean sure, the other Guardians got more faith, but did that somehow eradicate all the belief/fear in Pitch all over the world by kids that had been suffering from nightmares and fear during this time? Like you can't believe in Santa and the Boogeyman at the same time? Or believe in one and thus not fear other? Obviously he'd have less power but to go that low immediately?
"going to be trapped in his lair again like he was for hundreds of years before..." Except that he never was trapped in there as far as the audience knew? I don't remember him saying he was trapped, just that it took years to figure how to create nightmare creatures and he's now ready. Not to mention we saw a nightmare go to his kingdom through a water drain (or what you call those) so I have a hard time believing he has no way to get out.
Neither, but the kid asked the question about whether he'd be back or something.. and I got the impression he would Hmmmm ok.
Why should it? Did Pitch lose his power? How? His black sand was rendered useless, but that's not his source, that was merely a new weapon he developed. Pitch's source of power comes from within, it's a part of him, I read up, his source wasn't destroyed, it just ran out of things to feed on, because no one believed and no one was afraid. He was powerless, and his own fear took over himself, because what he feared most just happened/was happening to him. So since this was the only fear left, the only fear around, his horses turned on him to feed on. Why does he have no control of nightmares? How do you know? "Nightmares come from the fears that live in every heart." I guess Pitch just helps induce them and make them come through, makes them more common. Because he was defeated doesnt mean they'll stop outright.
I got the impression he was shunned away in his lair before because he "returns" as at the beginning of the movie the guardians talk about how they had kept it at bay and away or something. Where else would he be but his lair, without much power and no reign when the guardians were around?Even if he left it, he wouldn't be far. Only in the shadows. Anyway, I didn't mean he was trapped BEFORE, I didnt mean it literally either, metaphorically. 'Trapped' referred to that he was trapped in the END of the film, driven back in there by his fear. PREVIOUSLY he just didn't have much power and would have primarily lurked in his lair... thinking of ways he could come back and spread fear. He's "trapped" because he cant do much else...
"because no one believed and no one was afraid." Again, that makes no sense. Like I said, maybe the Guardians got more belief, but that doesn't mean no one in the world believed or feared Pitch, so basically he should have been almost as powerful. I mean just because the kids in one town didn't fear him, does that mean he can't get power from the other couple billion kids in the world? Again, if his powers are tied to only the place he currently is, the movie didn't really explain it so anything that's explained elsewhere is pretty moot when it comes to the experience of watching the movie itself.
"Why does he have no control of nightmares? How do you know?" Well, the fact that he couldn't stop them from attacking pretty much showed that he had no control over them at that point.
"I got the impression he was shunned away in his lair before because he "returns" as at the beginning of the movie the guardians talk about how they had kept it at bay and away or something." And I thought that referred to his power, as they had kept him weak enough to not do the same stuff as he did in the Middle Ages. After all he did say it took long for him to be able to do the nightmares and for that I would guess he had to be outside, corrupting kids dreams and doing his stuff, especially since it looks like he needs to be there personally, as does Jack Frost.
Awesome work!
I mean, it was nothing spectacular, but it was still alright, it wasn't BAD...

Didn't he say he'd visit though?
